Anna Kendrick was born August 9, 1985. She is an American actress and singer. Anna rose to fame due to her portrayal as Natalie Keener in the film Up in the Air (2009), for which she received the Academy Awards, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Supporting Actress. She portrayed Dinah Lord in the Broadway musical High Society (1998), for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. Anna was born in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Janice and William K. Kendrick. Her descent is Scottish, English, and Irish. Her older brother is actor Michael Cooke Kendrick, who appeared in the 2000 production Looking for an Echo. Anna attended Deering High School in her hometown.

Anna started her performing career at the early age of 10 when she took a bus from Portland, Maine, to New York City where she could try out for roles. Her first role was as Dinah in the Broadway production High Society in the summer of 1998 when she was 12 years old, a role for which she was awarded the Theatre World Award. Also, she was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and Tony Award. The Tony Award nomination made her the third-youngest Tony Award nominee ever. Anna went on to perform in a number of other stage productions, including the musical A Little Night Music, playing Fredrika Armfeldt in the New York City Opera production. A little later, she made her film debut in the 2003 musical comedy Camp. Due to her portrayal of Fritzi Wagner in this film, she received a nomination for the Independent Spirit Awards Best Debut Performance.

In 2007, she had a role in the film Rocket Science, in which she portrayed Ginny Ryerson, a fast-talking high school debater. Although she said she found the part challenging and intimidating after watching a real national collegiate championship debate, her performance was praised by critics and she was nominated for the Independent Spirit award for Best Supporting Actress. Later that year, she tried out for the role of Jessica Stanley in the film adaptation of Twilight, a 2008 film based on the initial book of the novel series by Stephenie Meyer. She had intended to do auditions with various actors, but was too ill and had to leave. Fortunately for her, she was able to come back for a later session and won the role of Jessica. Kendrick reprised this role in the first three Twilight sequels.

Kendrick's singing experience in theater won her the chance to star in The Marc Pease Experience (2009), where she appears as a high school senior involved in musical theater. She also appeared in the 2009 film Elsewhere, in which she portrays her first lead character, a girl whose best friend goes missing. She also starred in the film Up in the Air, based on Walter Kirn's 2001 book with the same name. For her role in Up in the Air, the National Board of Review named her Best Supporting Actress, and she also garnered nominations from numerous other awards including The Golden Globes, The Screen Actors Guild, and the Academy Awards.

She reprised her role as Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. She was featured in Edgar Wright's rendition of the graphic novel Scott Pilgrim, titled Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Kendrick played Stacey Pilgrim, the sister of the lead character. In 2010, she was in LCD Soundsystem's video "Pow Pow" as a "shape-shifter" who collects "the souls of wicked men". In October 2010, she was at the 2010 Top Glamour Awards in Mexico where she was given the award for "Best International Actress".

In 2011, she was featured in the dramatic comedy 50/50, and reprised her role as Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. In 2012, she played Rosie in the screen adaptation of the baby book What to Expect When You're Expecting. She also lent her voice to the character Courtney in the stop-motion animated movie ParaNorman. She starred in Pitch Perfect as Beca, a rebellious student who learns that she has a voice in her school's all-women a cappella group, and she is also featured on the film's soundtrack. Kendrick also appeared in the police drama End of Watch, as Janet. In 2012 she was in the thriller The Company You Keep.

In 2013, Anna scored a hit song with "Cups (When I'm Gone)" from the film Pitch Perfect which became a No. 2 hit on Billboard's Adult Pop chart. Kendrick also made her SNL hosting debut on April 5, 2014 with musical guest Pharrell.
