Anna Kendrick started her existence on August 9, 1985. She is a singer and American actress. She shot to international fame due to her portrayal as Natalie Keener in Up in the Air (2009), for which she received the Academy Awards, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Supporting Actress. She portrayed Dinah Lord in the Broadway musical High Society (1998), for which she was up for a Tony Award. Her other notable roles include Fritzi Wagner in Camp (2003), Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga (2008-11), Stacey Pilgrim in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), Beca Mitchell in Pitch Perfect (2012), and Janet in End of Watch (2012).

She was born in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Janice and William K. Kendrick. Her descent is Scottish, English, and Irish. She has an older brother, actor Michael Cooke Kendrick, who appeared in the 2000 film Looking for an Echo. Anna attended Deering High School in Portland, Maine.

Kendrick began her career at the early age of 10 when she took a bus from Portland, Maine, to New York City so that she could attend auditions. Kendrick's first acting role was as Dinah in the Broadway production High Society in August 1998 when she was only 12 years old, a performance for which she was awarded the Theatre World Award. Also, she was nominated for a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award. The Tony Award nomination made her the third-youngest Tony Award nominee ever. Anna went on to perform in a number of other productions, including the musical A Little Night Music, in which she played Fredrika Armfeldt in the New York City Opera production. A little later, she made her motion picture debut in the 2003 comedy musical Camp. Due to her portrayal of Fritzi Wagner in this film, she received a nomination for the Independent Spirit Awards Best Debut Performance.

In 2007, she had a role in the film Rocket Science, in which she played Ginny Ryerson, a high school debater that talked fast. Although she said she found the role intimidating and challenging after watching an actual national collegiate debate, her performance was given high accolades by critics and she was nominated for an Independent Spirit award for Best Supporting Actress. Later that year, she tried out for the role of Jessica Stanley in the film adaptation of Twilight, a 2008 film based on the initial book of the novel series by Stephenie Meyer. Anna had intended to do auditions with various actors, but she was too ill and had to leave prematurely. Fortunately for her, she was brought in for a later session and was given the role of Jessica. Kendrick reprised this role in the first three Twilight sequels.

Anna's theater singing experience won her the chance to star in The Marc Pease Experience (2009), where she appears as a high school senior involved in musical theater. She also appeared in the 2009 film Elsewhere, in which she plays her first lead character, a girl whose best friend goes missing. She also starred in the film Up in the Air, based on Walter Kirn's 2001 novel with the same name. For her role in Up in the Air, the National Board of Review named her Best Supporting Actress, and she also garnered nominations from numerous other awards including The Screen Actors Guild, The Golden Globes, and the Academy Awards.

She reprised her role as Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. She was featured in Edgar Wright's adaptation of the graphic novel Scott Pilgrim, titled Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Kendrick played Stacey Pilgrim, the sister of the lead character. In 2010, she appeared in LCD Soundsystem's video "Pow Pow" as a "shape-shifter" who gathers "the souls of wicked men". In October 2010, she attended the 2010 Top Glamour Awards based in Mexico where she won the award for "Best International Actress".

In 2011, Anna was featured in the dramatic comedy 50/50, and reprised her her portrayal of Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. In 2012, she was Rosie in the screen adaptation of the baby guide What to Expect When You're Expecting. She also lent her voice to the character Courtney in the animated movie ParaNorman. She starred in Pitch Perfect as Beca, a rebellious college student who discovers her voice in her school's all-women a cappella group, and she is also featured on the film's soundtrack. Kendrick also appeared in the police drama End of Watch, playing Janet. In 2012 she was in the thriller The Company You Keep.

In 2013, Anna scored a hit song with "Cups (When I'm Gone)" from the film Pitch Perfect which became a No. 2 hit on Billboard's Adult Pop Song chart. Kendrick also hosted SNL on April 5, 2014 with musical guest Pharrell.
