Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick started her existence on August 9, 1985. She is a singer and American actress. Anna shot to international fame due to her performance as Natalie Keener in the movie Up in the Air (2009), for which she received the Academy Awards, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Supporting Actress. She played Dinah Lord in the Broadway production High Society (1998), for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. Her other notable roles include Fritzi Wagner in Camp (2003), Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga (2008-11), Stacey Pilgrim in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), Beca Mitchell in Pitch Perfect (2012), and Janet in End of Watch (2012).

She was born in the state of Maine, the daughter of William K and Janice Kendrick. She is of English, Irish, and Scottish descent. Her older brother is actor Michael Cooke Kendrick, who appeared in the 2000 film Looking for an Echo. She attended Deering High School in her hometown.

Kendrick began her performing career at the age of 10 when she took a bus from Portland, Maine, to New York City so that she could attend auditions. Her first acting role was as Dinah in the Broadway musical High Society in the summer of 1998 when she was 12 years old, a performance for which she won the Theatre World Award. Also, she was nominated for a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award. The Tony Award nomination made her the third-youngest Tony Award nominee ever. Kendrick went on to appear in a number of other stage productions, including A Little Night Music, playing Fredrika Armfeldt in the New York City Opera production. Afterwards, she made her film debut in the 2003 comedy musical Camp. Due to her portrayal of Fritzi Wagner in this film, she received a nomination for the Independent Spirit Awards Best Debut Performance.

In 2007, Anna appeared in her next film, Rocket Science, in which she portrayed Ginny Ryerson, a fast-talking high school debater. Although Kendrick said she found the role intimidating and challenging after watching an actual national collegiate championship debate, her performance was praised by critics and she was nominated for the Independent Spirit award for Best Supporting Actress. Later that year, she auditioned for the part of Jessica Stanley in the movie Twilight, a 2008 film based on the first book of the novel series by Stephenie Meyer. Anna had intended to do auditions with various actors, but she was too sick and had to leave prematurely. Fortunately for her, she was able to come back for a later session where she won the role of Jessica. Kendrick reprised this role in the first three Twilight sequels.

Anna's singing experience in theater gave her the chance to land a role in The Marc Pease Experience (2009), where she appears as a high school senior involved in musical theater. She also appeared in the 2009 film Elsewhere, in which she portrays her first lead character, a girl whose best friend goes missing. She also starred in the movie Up in the Air, based on Walter Kirn's 2001 novel of the same name. For her role in Up in the Air, the National Board of Review named her Best Supporting Actress, and she also picked up nominations from numerous other awards including The Screen Actors Guild, The Golden Globes, and the Academy Awards.

Kendrick reprised her role as Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. She appeared in Edgar Wright's rendition of the graphic novel Scott Pilgrim, the name of the movie being Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. In this film, she played Stacey Pilgrim, the sister of the lead character. In 2010, she was in LCD Soundsystem's video "Pow Pow" as a "shape-shifter" who collects "the souls of wicked men". In October 2010, she was at the 2010 Top Glamour Awards based in Mexico where she won the award for "Best International Actress".

In 2011, Anna was featured in the dramatic comedy 50/50, and reprised her her portrayal of Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. In 2012, she was Rosie in the film version of the baby book What to Expect When You're Expecting. She also lent her voice to the character Courtney in the stop-motion animated film ParaNorman. She starred in Pitch Perfect as Beca, a rebellious college student who discovers her voice in her school's female a cappella group, and she is also featured on the film's soundtrack. Kendrick also appeared in the police drama End of Watch, playing Janet. In 2012 she appeared in the political thriller The Company You Keep.

In 2013, Anna scored a popular song with "Cups (When I'm Gone)" from the movie Pitch Perfect which became a No. 2 hit on Billboard's Adult Pop Song chart. Anna also made her SNL hosting debut on April 5, 2014 with musical guest Pharrell.
